Georgina Gray - Counsellor Psychotherapy

My name is Georgina. I have a background in psychology and have been employed as lead counsellor/team leader for a charitable organisation coming up to 10 years. I have run a successful private counselling practice for the last 5 years and work with a variety of problems and issues, including anxiety, depression, emotional difficulties, relationship issues, low self-esteem, addictions and trauma and PTSD.

Counselling

The reasons that people may seek counselling are very individual and personal - it may be due to emotional problems including anxiety and depression, or that early life experiences have been having adverse effects in adult life, or traumatic events, or because of a feeling that life has somehow lost its balance...I believe that in many cases counselling can help to gain control of life through exploring issues, identifying the problem, and if appropriate, take action. What I guarantee is the freedom to talk about any issues in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I work in an integrative way, and may use techniques from TA (Transactional Analysis), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapies), REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) or Solution Focused Therapies, and offer Trauma Work (see below).

Trauma Therapy

During the last 3 years I have been developing a speciality in working with trauma, having gained the ESTSS Certificate in Psychotraumatology and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Traumatology and PTSD - a comprehensive and systematic approach for treating complex PTSD in adults. This includes comprehensive assessment, psycho-education, safety and stabilisation, emotion regulation and trauma processes themselves such as IRRT (Image Rescripting and Reprocesing Therapy), PET (Prolonged Exposure Therapy), CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) and NET (Narrative Exposure Therapy) as well as ERRT (Exposure, Relaxation & Rescripting Therapy for Post-Trauma Nightmares.

Many people will experience trauma at some time in their life, research estimates that up to 20 % of those may go on to develop PTSD symptoms (Briere & Scott, 2015). Regardless of whether a person meets the criteria for a PTSD diagnosis or not, dealing with these traumatic experiences can help individuals to process traumatic memories and file them away in the correct place, and go on to experience post-traumatic growth.

I receive referrals from Health Insurance Companies, EAP's, Occupational Therapists, GP's as well as self-referrals.

Provision

I offer a discrete and confidential service. This includes one to one counselling, relationship and couple counselling, family counselling, group work, short term and long term. I also provide Skype and Telephone counselling, and home visits possible.

Initial Meeting

The initial session is free of charge for self-funding individuals. The first session can help determine whether we both feel we can work together to explore any issues meaningfully. Research shows that the quality of therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is more important than the approach or therapy offered. The initial meeting is also a place where we can discuss a counselling contract and any concessions that may be available.

Commitment

Partaking in counselling, or treatment for trauma and PTSD, is a very individual, personal and private journey which can at times be painful. It requires hard-work and commitment from both counsellor and client and is a two-way process. The expectation of the client is to fully engage with the process and to attend the scheduled appointments.
